Why is womens sexual health generally deteriorating...and what to do about it.

Womens sexual health - libido is a Latin word that simply means desire, lust and sex drive. Womens sexual health and experiencing low sex drive usually means also experiencing water retention, irregular or heavy periods, depression, fibrocystic breasts and wrinkly skin. All of these symptoms are indicative of hormone imbalance and progesterone deficiency.

Sexual health in women also declines because of the following factors:

• Women are often exposed to environmental pollutants and toxins.
• Low DHEA and testosterone levels.
• Stress is another important factor.
• Excess alcohol and depression.
• Poor nutrition and obesity, which can affect energy levels, hormone imbalance and self-image as well as womens sex health.
• Emotional and psychological reasons that have never been resolved (relationship and marriage problems or sexual abuse).
• Women often do nothing to stop the deterioration and make themselves better.
• Hormonal imbalance (progesterone deficiency is a major problem for most men and women). But it can be solved with bio-identical progesterone supplementation.

Most people in our society, men included, are exposed to xenoestrogens (pollutants and chemicals), and very often we don't see the immediate consequences that these chemicals have on our reproductive, adrenal and immune systems.

Progesterone is produced by the female body at ovulation.

Progesterone affects womens sexual health and libido, besides being the hormone in the female body that is responsible for fertility. It’s perfectly natural for a woman to be sexually active throughout her life. And there’s a great deal of evidence that sexual activity is good for your health.

Steroid Hormones function in the following way:

CHOLESTEROL in the body gets converted into ---> PREGNENOLONE, and the pregnenolone gets converted into ---> PROGESTERONE. The body then uses progesterone to generate the other hormones such as estrogens (estridiol, estrone and estriol), testosterone and corticosteroids.

When progesterone levels are low in the body, the ovaries produce estrogen and testosterone by using very inefficient methods.

This is why between the ages of 30 to 50, women start experiencing all kinds of premenopause and menopause symptoms because of anovulatory cycles (this means you have menstruation but no ovulation). And when you don't ovulate, your body produces very little progesterone.

Hormonal imbalance and progesterone deficiency can be a major causes of women's poor sexual health. Progesterone is not a sex hormone, but it is very important to the brain and spinal cord. Also, progesterone is the precursor of testosterone and corticosteroids.

Progesterone is concentrated in brain cells to levels 20 times higher than that of blood serum levels. This alone suggests that progesterone in brain cells must have great importance and purpose to womens sexual health.
