Ovulation tests available online for women...

Ovulation tests help you maximize the chances of becoming pregnant! The best days to get pregnant will generally be the time when ovulation occurs, and ovulation tests can be used at home to better predict your most fertile time.

When your menstrual cycle is regular, your ovaries release an egg into the fallopian tube every 18 to 28 days (range 21-35 days). Only 15% of women have a "typical" 28-day cycle. The release of one egg from a follicle is called ovulation. Every month the body releases close to 120 follicles but only one succeeds in releasing the egg (ovulation).

With ovulation the follicle becomes the corpus luteum and at this point starts making a lot of progesterone, which stops further ovulation by the rest of the follicles as well as the follicles of the other ovary.

When the egg exits the follicle, it is drawn towards the fallopian tube which is still some distance away.

Many women feel when they are going to ovulate without using ovulation tests. A slight cramping sensation around the ovary is quite common. When you are ovulating you also experience more mucus in the vagina. That vaginal mucus becomes very wet and has the consistency almost like raw egg whites. This is what Dr. John R. Lee calls fertility awareness!

The best days to get pregnant will generally be the time when ovulation occurs. Women are generally only fertile for about seventy two hours each cycle. Sperm may live up to 72 hours after arrival into the vagina. Conception can occur even if sperm arrive 2 to 3 days prior to ovulation. Ovulation occurs approximately 34-36 hours after the start of the LH surge or 10-12 hours after the peak of the LH surge - this is important when using the ovulation tests.

Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler

This comprehensive book explains in lucid, assured terms how to practice the fertility awareness method (FAM), a natural, scientifically proven but little-known form of birth control (which is not to be confused with the woefully ineffective "rhythm" method).

As the book explains, by using simple fertility signs including peaks in morning body temperature and changes in cervical position and cervical mucus, it's possible to determine when ovulation is taking place.

Taking Charge of Your Fertility also explains how to help choose the sex of your baby by timing intercourse according to certain fertility signs. It also features thorough, easy-to-understand explanations of hormones, the menstrual cycle, and menopause, along with fertility tests, ovulation tests and treatments and their long and short-term side effects plus a topnotch resource section.

The Garden of Fertility by Katie Singer

The Garden of Fertility is a guide to reading fertility signals in order to prevent or achieve pregnancy. Certified fertility educator Katie Singer explains how to observe and chart fertility cycles to determine when a woman is most fertile to increase chances of conception, or to exercise birth control naturally - a method that when followed precisely is as effective as the Pill.

Unlike other books on fertility awareness, The Garden of Fertility also describes how to use the charts to gauge gynecological health and offers nonmedical options for strengthening reproductive wellness. This book provides the information women never learned in sex education class but should have.
